My Love Hate Relationships with New York Bodegas ( A Six Part Blog/Vlog Series) [Intro]
I’ve been living in Brooklyn, New York for over 25 years now. (Minus a stint in Orlando, Florida and 5 years in Harlem, New York.) So living in NYC as you do you can get used to the total ubiquitous presence of your average corner store Bodega. No matter where you go in NYC there they are. Fifth Avenue, there goes one, Broadway, bang there’s another one, in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, heck there is probably a corner Bodega in your neighborhood right where you live!
While there are Bodegas everywhere you look in the five boroughs, not one is exactly alike. In my Neighborhood alone there are Bodegas run by many different people from many different countries. Yemen, The Dominican Republic, Porto Rico, Haiti, Senegal, Jamaica, Saudi Arabia, etc. If you looked at this average Brooklyn neighborhood you wouldn't think that you’re practically walking around a virtual United Nations of stores!
In this Six part series we’ll be looking at New York Bodegas in my Brooklyn Neighborhood as well as learning about an almost 80 year city institution. The history, the stories, the people, and the food that is all involved in what makes a Bodega so unique. The highs and the lows plus an inside peek at what’s on offer at the best in my humble opinion of what makes a top notch Five Borough Bodega.
Here’s hoping that you stick around and stay for a fun and educational good time!
